Application notes for the N8101 & N8101B DC Power Source

with AC voltage as the input

AC voltage (the sine wave kind, like your house's wall outlet, only much lower voltage).

While the N8101 is specifically design to support model railroading in either a DC (analog) or DCC environment, it will also convert am AC voltage (not exceeding 11.3-volts RMS) to DC, with filtering sufficient to power devices like our LEDs or our lighting special effects Simulators. If fact, it should be able to power any DC device providing total power consumption (power = voltage x current) for the connected device or devices, does not exceed 350mW (0.350 Watts). The N8101B can convert AC voltage to DC providing that SC RMS voltage does not exceed 17.8 volts.
